When I was younger I wanted to do all sorts of things: an author, a spy, a musician (I even went to music school for a year). At the end of high school I knew I didn’t have the stomach to do medicine but I wanted to do something involving cancer research so I decided to do medicinal chemistry. You don’t need to have decided what you want to be when you grow up when you’re young. It’s great to be interested in all sorts of things because that gives you more options.

When I was younger I wanted to either be a vet or a farmer. I ended up doing science for A Level and at University and now i’m doing a PhD looking at cow parasites so in a way I have combined the two.

Well, to be honest, I liked trains when I was younger – say 10-15 years old – so, I aspired to be a train driver. But reality set in, I realized I was not good with electrical science and hence had to give off my aspiration.

Lots of things – when I was very young I wanted to be an astronaut. I definitely went through a phase when I decided all I wanted to be was ‘very rich’, and I remember wanting to be a chef too. My parents didn’t really mind what I did – as long as I found something I enjoyed doing. I suggest you do the same!

When I was younger I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be but I do remember thinking that being a Vet might be fun as I loved animals and had pets at home. I loved reading and I loved studying at school, but it wasn’t until I was 14yrs old that I wanted to become a Doctor. I changed my mind at 17yrs old having completed a rotation in the hospital. At this point I wasn’t sure what job I wanted to do instead, I just knew my favourite subject was Human Biology.

I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I was younger. After a few years in high school I liked the idea of being a medical doctor, so that I could help people. But when I got to doing A levels I realised how much I enjoyed chemistry and decided to apply to do it at University instead. Following what your interested in is the best advice I could offer!
