I have two proudest professional moments:
(1) Learning that my PhD thesis had been accepted by my examiners after edits and I could now graduate. It’s a big moment when experts in a field let you know that you’re work efforts for the past 4 years paid off.
(2) Working on the Mental Health Act Review in 2018. This was a great patient focused bit of work that looked at how we can change legislation to support better healthcare for people with ill mental health. After my PhD I applied to get funding for my own project, and get a personal fellowship. This was an idea that I had come up with and written the whole proposal for the project myself and was lucky enough to get the funding! Overall the funding was worth around £45k, so a very proud moment for me!
My moment happened just before Christmas. We had a visiting researcher who had done some of the foundational work that led to my project. I arranged to meet them for a coffee before they gave the lecture they had been invited for and he was pleased to see something that had been a small side project for him, had grown into a PhD project that I was carrying out. He even gave me a shoutout during his lecture which was a great feeling!
