As technology develops we actually learn how to apply it in more useful ways. It has been feared for hundreds of years that technology will replace human jobs, but in fact quite the opposite has happened, in that new industries are created and this leads to more than jobs because of it. In an ideal world, we will use technology to replace jobs that don’t require brain power and leave humans to what they are much better at – being creative!

I dont think technology can fully replace human intervention and involvement. There are emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning which bring in a lot of not only automation but also intelligence. Although these bring a lot of advantages to the table, it is only fair to say that technology cannot fully replace human expertise

In terms of my skills as a synthetic chemist, definitely! Check out the ChemPuter that can currently do most of what I do in a typical day in the lab: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvEkm7ZBKSc

Technology can’t replace the creativity required to work out a problem though so I think the world will always need scientists!
