That is a hard question actually. I really enjoyed the challenge of working on something that nobody else had ever worked on before. My PhD was based a very small amount of work that was done in the 1960s, so it meant that I could really do what I wanted to try and get some results. It was definitely challenging, and some days I wanted to be anywhere except the lab, but overall the challenge was a really enjoyable part for the majority of my PhD.
I also got to go to a conference in India, which was funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry, so I could give a talk about my work to a group of fellow students. It was an amazing experience that I would not have had with many other jobs! And there are so many opportunities for other PhD students to do similar things!
