One of our papers got accepted last week – in this paper we show how bacterial pathogens and our cells are involved in a molecular warfare and how this warfare involves an important process in our systems – a process called autophagy (Self-eating). This process is very critical to maintaining human health in different ways and we show how bacteria modulate this process.

This paper, I would say, is my biggest scientific achievement

My biggest scientific achievement has been to make new molecules that didn’t previously exist, that do the thing they’re supposed to do. I have discovered during my PhD that it is possible to design a drug for a particular enzyme in cancer cells. Hopefully it will lead to better cancer medicines one day!

I managed to assemble and find all the genes in my parasite genome, since I’m the first person to do this it feels really cool.
