Cancer is caused by several “mutation events” in the cell where our DNA isn’t repaired properly when it gets damaged. Sometimes this happens purely by accident, like some of my typos in these answers! Our cell DNA get damaged 10,000-100,000 per day per cell but almost all of the time our cells are really good at repairing that damage.

Some of the damage comes from things outside of our body such as the things we eat and UV radiation from the sun.

Exercising and eating healthily is a great way to reduce your cancer but even vegan marathon runners get it sometimes, it’s very random who gets it.
