I think we can improve patient access to medicines by getting them involved in clinical trials and ensuring innovative medicines are personalised and hence more likely to work for an individual
An increasing amount of research is becoming “open access” meaning it is freely available to the public. Pharma companies are taking part in schemes like the PKIS set where they donate molecules they made in previous projects which didn’t work for their particular disease but can now be investigated by others for other diseases. This shift in keeping everything secret and locked up in legal patent documents should hopefully bring down the cost of marketing some drugs, making them more accessible to everyone.
