Well there are two big theories – creation and evolution.
Creationists believe that an omnipresent omniscient being called God created all life sequentially.
Evolutionists believe that life evolved – starting from the tiny bacteria in the primordial seas and upwards into higher organisms like vertebrates and then us.

In anycase, both creationists and evolutionists have failed because whatever their belief is, they have not learnt to respect our home – this tiny little blue dot in space – The Earth.

Life began because of a particular moment when the right elements arranged themselves in the right way and made key building blocks of life called amino acids. The precise time that this happened or the precise mechanism about how it happened and whether there was a divine being orchestrating it is hard to pin down because none of us were there but whatever did happen has led to a huge explosion of diverse life forms on our planet (and potentially beyond).
