My work is hopefully going to be applied in the synthesis of important chemicals, including drugs and agrochemicals. Recently, an enzyme that was discovered in the group I work in was the taken by a multinational pharmaceutical company and applied on an industrial scale to make a HIV drug! This is what we aim for most of our work, to be able to be used in a productive way by industry!

My research is already being used by other researchers. My chemical probes are tested by biologists in Brazil and once I finish my project I hope to release information about them to the wider scientific community. They can use my probe molecules to work out what job my kinase enzyme does and all being well that might lead to a new cancer drug one day.

My work can be used to (hopefully) create a working vaccine which can then be used to treat lots of cows

Policy is automatically applied to real life as it addresses challenges in the UK’s healthcare and research landscape. From the work I do on clinical trial set-up to patient involvement in clinical research, I work on real-life issues relating to science and health.
