• Question: do you want to carry on your work in the future?

      Yes I do! One of the really fun things about science is you never actually know what you are going to discover. Because of this, you never know what you might be working on in a few months from now! A few months ago for example, and colleague and I discovered a new way to make a useful material from waste sugars that are made in the millions of tonnes by the dairy industry. We are hoping to be able to use the material to make biodegradable polymers, which could potentially replace some forms of plastic in the future. At the start of January, I didn’t have a clue I was going to be working on this! So yes, the element of not knowing what is going to happen means I would love to carry on doing this job in the future!
